Previous Episode: Know Your Worth (Part 2)

Send us a Text Message.

How many of you have tried to eat your way to financial security with beans, rice, and ramen noodles? You think, “If I only ate really cheap food, I’d be rich.”

Yeah, me too.

It’s that same debunked concept that if we just stopped buying lattes and avocado toast, we’d all be homeowners by now, right? Frankly, that’s a pretty warped perspective about growing wealth, and a girl can only go so long with the same one or two meals every day!

The big financial gurus out there will tell you to cut, cut, cut your expenses. And while that’s valuable advice – to live below your means – to abide by that concept in a vacuum sets up a mindset of shrinking, not building. If you’re not contributing to your savings account, but you buy a latte every day… sure, best to re-examine the coffee budget. But instead of thinking about all the things we can cut from our lives to save money, what if we started to strategically assess what we actually need and want to live a fulfilling life with a vision of our future in clear view?

In episode 10 of the Black Girl Fly podcast, Tashaunda and I review popular financial philosophies and what we’ve learned from them along the way. We talk about the primary differences in the mentality of wealthy people and folks who are struggling to increase their savings (and why it’s working for the wealthy people). And we discuss how important it is to have a balanced life, both financially and in our relationships.
