Here’s another episode I recorded forever ago… 6 months ago on September 1st, 2020 to be exact. My apologies to Jeff for taking so long to get to this. In happier news, I’ve been doing the work to bring order to all the chaos, and so I am looking forward to a far more organized, functional year ahead.

Perhaps you’ve been disheartened by all the anti-vaxxers, anti-maskers, and outright COVID deniers out there. As someone who pretty early on (March 13th, 2020 to be exact) voluntarily locked down and began isolating, mask-wearing, and distancing myself from others, it has been so gutwrenching to see so many people flaunting public health guidelines, being reckless, and spreading all manner of propaganda and misinformation about the measures available to us to stay safe and to get through this as best we can.

If that has been your experience, you’ll appreciate this conversation with Jeff, exploring the phenomenon of conspiracy theories and beliefs and why we have to contend with such false narratives.

ABOUT OUR GUEST:

Jeff Mannes is a social scientist, speaker, tour guide, and freelance writer born in Luxembourg-City, Luxembourg and living in Berlin, Germany.

He has been studying sociology and gender studies at the universities of Trier, Göttingen, and Berlin (Germany) and focussed his studies on human sexualities, queer theories, postcolonial studies, and human-animal-relationships.

In Berlin, Jeff gives his critically acclaimed guided tour “Berlin’s History of Sex” (supported by the Federal Foundation Magnus Hirschfeld). He also regularly writes for magazines such as SIEGESSÄULE (Berlin’s highest-circulating city magazine, as well as Europe’s most-read LGBTIQ magazine) or for non-profits such as the German AIDS Service Organization (Deutsche Aidshilfe). Since 2019, he is also employed at the German AIDS Service Organization, working in PR & Social Media for ICH WEISS WAS ICH TU, a safer sex campaign directed at gay, bisexual, and other men having sex with men.

He also runs ORJIZMIC, a website where he offers his guided and online tours about Berlin’s History of Sex, his freelance writing, presentations and workshops, and a blog all about sex.
