Today I'm interviewing Chef Cristina Nishioka, the Honolulu based pastry chef behind the Instagram account Beyond Pastry. A graduate of baking school, Cristina started out her life as an apprentice baker, eventually working her way up at a company to become the general manager. She did this all while also attending college to pursue a degree in history at the University of the Philippines. After college, Cristina decided to explore the world, so she packed up and traveled across the Middle East, landing a job in the pastry department of a restaurant in Doha, Qatar, before moving to Singapore for a job as a general manager at a gourmet bakery. After that job, she became a pastry chef instructor at a local baking school. In 2018, she won Cookie Corner’s recipe contest and has since become their Research and Development chef. She also works full time as a pastry chef at 3660 on the Rise, a local restaurant here in Honolulu.
