On this episode of the Beyond the Helmet we are joined by former NFL Offensive Lineman and Counselor/Consultant, Bob Newton.

Bob Newton was an All-American football player at Nebraska and played 12 years of professional football. Throughout his playing days, Bob drank like many of his teammates did. Overtime though, Newton began to drink more frequently. Eventually it began to effect his on the field performance and ultimately it helped end his football career.

While that could sound like a sad story, it actually allowed for Bob to find his true calling in life. As Papa Fig surrendered to his alcoholism and went to rehab, a fire was lit in him to not only get help but be a force to help others through substance abuse. Newton has been working in chemical dependency professionally for over 30 years with an untold number of lives saved. We spoke about his journey, the NFL landscape today as it relates to substance abuse and more.
