“Study Deeply”
Romans 10:17
November 03, 2019

Maybe you have had a time in your life where you really needed to hear from God.

“‘Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?’”
-Luke 24:32

When we are in our darkest hours, and even when we are at our highest points we need to hear from God.

Faith is our response or acting based on our belief that God is who he says he is and will do all that he says he has and will do.

Our actions come from hearing the message through the word about Christ.

The Bible is one of our main sources of giving God’s Spirit an opportunity to speak to us. One of the byproducts of studying deeply is learning to listen to God.

Biblical meditation involves reading God’s word over and over, slowly, and out loud.

“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do”
- James 1:22-25

We get so wrapped up in trying to be a “Good Person” that we begin to try to earn our salvation practices like reading the Bible.

Sometimes reading the Bible can feel like a chore or an obligation.

“Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long.”
-Psalm 119:7

“The law of the Lord is perfect,
refreshing the soul.
The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy,
making wise the simple.
The precepts of the Lord are right,
giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are radiant,
giving light to the eyes.”
-Psalm 19:7,8
