Nehemiah is one of the most fascinating accounts in Israel’s history. It reads like a movie telling the historical account of a nation in political, social, and spiritual turmoil. Today we will look at the historical background to the events of Nehemiah and read through the first chapter where Nehemiah not only hears about the broken walls and gates of Jerusalem but also the way sin has wrecked their nation. In the same way, we have grown numb to our own sin and the destruction it creates in our own lives and God is calling us to take the same steps as Israel: repent.
