Laurence Sterne's The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentlemen has been called "the first post-modern novel" written before "there was even a modern to be post- about." Written in 1759, the nine-volume satirical memoir is also recognized as "thoroughly unadaptable." But in 2005, Michael Winterbottom and Steve Coogan attempted to do just that.
