Meteorologist Krystal Klei from NBC10’s First Alert Weather team returns to the BEN studios to talk about the 5th Annual Clear the Shelters animal adoption event. This giant effort on the part of NBC and Telemundo  takes place Saturday, August 17th with a goal to literally clear the shelters nationwide, and place these animals into loving homes. Find more details and a map of participating shelters at Cleartheshelters.com. There’s also a lot of information about the adoption process and tips for potential adopters at NBC10.com. There are over 60 shelters participating in the Philadelphia and surrounding area, with adoption fees waived all day on August 17th 2019. Go bring home your new best friend!

Then, Kristen is joined by Gabriel Nyantakyi, the creator of an organization and movement called Waterarms Over FireArms. Gabriel is a big fan of super soakers and using these water ‘guns’ as a way to encourage positive play in a city that is plagued by firearms and gun violence. Gabriel hosts large water fights, open to the public, and hopes to continue the movement of #waterarmsoverfirearms. Find more information about Gabriel and Waterarms Over Firearms on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/Waterarms-over-Firearms-575599726160294/. They are hosting a “Water Fight For Life” on Saturday, August 17th at 1pm at Philadelphia’s LOVE Park. Gabriel will be there with 100 super soakers to lend. Be ready to get wet!

Finally, Kristen is joined by Jaimi Blackburn, the Director of Public Relations for Fearless Restaurants which includes all three White Dog Cafe locations (and soon to be a 4th). This Monday (8/19) is the 3rd Annual Dining Out for the Dogs event at White Dog Cafe to benefit Alpha Bravo Canine, which provides trained service dogs to U.S military veterans. Starting at 5pm WMMR, BEN FM, WMGK, WXTU and The Fanatic on-air personalities will be at each of the three White Dog Cafe locations (Wayne Haverford and University City) dining with guests and hosting drawings for prizes including the opportunity for a commissioned 30” by 40” pet portrait (valued at $2650), by artist Jay McClellan, who’s artwork adorns the walls of the White Dog Cafe locations. There will be puppy-kissing booths at each location where guests can make a donation to cuddle and kiss one of the Alpha Bravo Canine puppies!
