"I took in the championship philosophy of being the best at everything...and it was whether I was going to be hittin a pipe or putting the basketball in a hoop, I was going to be the best at it."

This week I had local Rapper/MC Qbala on the patio. If you haven't yet heard of Qbala, don't worry, you will. With an energy and passion that is rivaled by few, Qbala is helping to define not just Denver hip-hop, but Denver music in general.

Her amazing story, to me, is one of energy and balance. She openly tells her tale of struggling to manage the demons of substance abuse against her drive to push her natural talents. Qbala also talks about fighting labels and the societal expectations that accompany them.

Listen above for an open, honest and inspiring story about this local artist who has fought to find balance in the energy of life and refuses to take anything for granted.

The song for this episode is called Pride and is off of Qbala's latest EP "Battle Cries". Purchase the song, album and all of Qbala's great offerings direct from Bandcamp.

Listen above and as always, subscribe direct on iTunes and Rss.

This episode was graciously sponsored by Renegade Brewing Company! Visit their taproom on 9th and Santa Fe or pick up their wonderful assortment of beer at any local liquor store.
