This episode I put the spotlight on rising artist, writer, and producer Matt Rose. We chat about soul music, the balancing act of co-producing your own records, and growing up in the church. It’s a strange thing to ponder something like D’Angelo‘s Brown Sugar in terms of its influence–musical or cultural–over the 20 years since initial release but we dive into Kaytranada & Leon Bridges comparisons and how its impacted him as his own musical influences. After all, his single “Apology” aims to reject our preconceived notions of hip-hop genre tropes. Stay tuned for Matt Rose’s debut project to arrive this year.
