King David's heart struck him. He had a change of heart. He went the great distance from, "of course I am right" to "I could be wrong about this". If you have ever walked that path, you will know those are the most difficult steps you will ever take. Repentance is "expensive" in that way and is a big step toward true worship.
Worship requires effort, attention, and inconvenience on our part. Though Jesus did the heavy lifting in making a way, our part comes at a cost. If you find that your worship is difficult, expensive, & arduous, you are probably on your way to pleasing God. Nobody said it was going to be easy. As David said, "I will not offer burnt offerings to the Lord that cost me nothing."
