Some people say, "I don't like the God of the Old Testament." What they are really saying is, "I don't like the COVENANT of the Old Testament." And you know what? I AGREE with them and so does Paul.
He calls the Old covenant a stone cold killer; of the ministry of death; of the ministry of condemnation; temporary; and yet: GLORIOUS. It does represent the favor of God's attention, His intervention, and Him putting a big sign out saying: "Do NOT come this way!" In that way, He's pointing to the NEW COVENANT...
Which is awesome: It gives LIFE, it is of the Spirit; It is a ministry of RIGHTEOUSNESS(which is not our ownBTW); it is permanent and results in MORE GLORY.
