Holographic visual effects have been around the event tech industry for years, and as the technology and techniques evolve, so does the overall impact. The equipment is becoming more cost effective and the methods are proving to be less logistically challenging, offering more opportunities than ever to utilize this technology.

While we’re still years away from seeing actual holograms appear on stage alongside presenters, these effects continue to influence events and wow attendees.

Two questions to consider now are, how is this tech impacting the industry, and how can it be useful for corporate events?

Shawn Lunsford, Video Service Technician, answers both these questions and more in this podcast. With almost 20 years in the industry and as one of our leaders in innovation at Alford, Lunsford has seen a steady change in holographic projection technology. “In today’s day and age, the need to be able to have your attendees experience these types of things at an event is huge and growing. You can do so much with CGI, TVs and computers, you bring all of these out of this world tech to someone in a movie or a commercial, and we would like to be able to translate those types of experiences to attendees,” Lunsford said.

While sharing his insights, Lunsford describes some of the most exciting applications and how these effects can be used in corporate spaces to elevate brands and interactivity. But more importantly, he details the conversations that AV and event technology providers are having with clients about holographic visual effects, when it’s appropriate to use them, and how to not fall into a trap of chasing technology. “If you can’t compete with what’s wowing someone on their phones… you’re gonna be missing the mark, especially in an industry like ours where technology is so crucial to what we provide,” Lunsford said.
