Will Yates is a genius self-taught composer and multi-instrumentalist. Making music as Memotone since 2010, he has a myriad of releases on legendary underground labels such as Sahko, Accidental Meetings, Black Acre and PLAQUE and even provided the source sounds that would go into making Batu's landmark album 'Opal' on Timedance last year. Take a deep dive into Will's vast and breath-taking sound world as both Memotone and O.G. Jigg and you may find influences and sounds, including but certainly not limited too, freak folk, bluegrass, psych, jazz, Medieval and Baroque music, new age, ambient, modern classical, dub, techno, drone, electronica and dungeon synth.

Over the course of this interview, Will gives an insight into where all of this spell-binding music comes from, discussing his early years and formative musical experiences, how he approaches learning and composing on a vast array of musical instruments, the deep folkloric roots that inspire him, his future projects and some of his favourite current records.

We will be giving away some of Will's records to coincide with this interview - Head over to www.instagram.com/awake.allhours/ for details.

Clips of ‘Shape In The Pond’ and ‘Leagues Under’ from Memotone's album ‘Clever Dog on Accidental Meetings are used at the beginning and end of this podcast.
