By the 1960s, when Overdrive Magazine was founded, many opportunities for owner-operators had become limited. Through the next 60 years, the magazine played a key part in advocating for enhanced hauling freedom in its early days.
After deregulation, Overdrive became more focused on operator business management as leased truck drivers became more prominent within the trucking industry.
From Overdrive Magazine, our special guests are Lucinda Coulter, Managing Editor and Todd Dills, Senior Editor.
Lucinda is the head editor behind Overdrive Retro where she has curated items from the past 50 years of trucking news coverage, features, ads and more. Todd is also host of the Overdrive Online Channel 19 blog and for the 50th-anniversary issue wrote the "Breaking Free" history of the owner-operator business in trucking, and Overdrive's part in helping shape the model through the years.
Join us for a look back through the history of the truck owner operator with Overdrive editors in the year of the magazine's 50th anniversary.
