goodbye/fun facts....National Watermelon Day...This vine-like flowering plant originated from southern Africa. Watermelon seeds were sold to traders passing through the trade routes in the Kalahari Desert in Africa. While the word watermelon refers to both the fruit and the plant to botanists, the plant is a pepo. he pepo is a berry with a thick rind and fleshy center. the most common color is deep red to pink. However, you can also find them in orange, yellow, or white.  Mark Twain describes the watermelon as “what the angels eat.”...and they're also really good for your dog!
