goodbye/fun facts....National Thesaurus Day honors Peter Mark Roget, the author of Roget’s Thesaurus, who was born on this day in 1779. he helped found the University of London in 1837...was a practicing physician...but gave up medical practice in 1840.  later that year when Roget retired from his career in medicine and spent the rest of his life working on Roget’s Thesaurus of English Words and Phrases... much like a scientist would collect specimens. In Roget’s case, he collected words. He first published his thesaurus in 1852. It has been claimed that Roget struggled with depression for most of his life and a biographer stated that his obsession with list-making was a coping mechanism
