Plunkett, along with his assistant, accidentally discovered polytetrafluoroethylene. they called it Teflon... trademarked in 1945. In 1985, the Inventors’ Hall of Fame inducted Dr. Plunkett. teflon It also is used in many other common products, including fabric and rug protection, hair styling tools, nail polish, and windshield wiper blades, to name a few.
