I had Stephen Datz on the podcast today. It was interesting because this is not the normal podcast where I talk about somebody's life as I've done that with Stephen before (Epi. 43 & 84). This podcast is about a show he had worked on for several years in the Grand Tetons. It was a prestigious plein-air show that he had helped start.

Well, the show was canceled suddenly in 2019 and Stephen didn't get closure with this body of work. He wanted to show all these paintings, and enhance some of the ones he really hadn't finished yet. So he spent the time and energy to not only finish the paintings but to write an article about each one and then put it in book form.

From a standpoint of "Is this a  financially smart thing to do?" I'd say maybe not. But from a creative standpoint, from an emotional, you know, seeking closure standpoint, it's exactly what art is about. He shows what he did, how he did it, why he did it, and he finished the paintings that never got finished.

So it's a wonderful show. This is kind of a dated podcast in a weird way because it's really talking about a show opening on August 19, 2022, here at my Tucson gallery. This show happens to be getting memorialized in a book as well. It's always going to be out there as long as the books are out there and we go and talk about it all.
