I had Navajo artist Shonto Begay on for his second episode of Art Dealer Diaries.

I love Shonto because he's not only a wonderful artist that I've collected for a long time in my own home, but also because he's a truly mystical individual. Shonto has this innate ability to channel the earth and his heritage into his work, and then infuse his own creative sensibilities, producing these elaborate, colorful scenes and stories.

This is the first interview I've actually had in person in over a year. We're both vaccinated so it was really wonderful and different when compared to the last 50 episodes, almost spiritual in some ways...

We've got a show coming up for Shonto in late April 2021 with a group of new paintings and we're also celebrating his major retrospective at the Wheelwright Museum which opens April 24 and runs through the remainder of 2021 into 2022. I've loaned paintings out of my own personal collection and Shonto sent paintings he had hanging in his studio. I highly recommend going and seeing the Wheelwright show if you get the opportunity.

This is Shonto Begay on episode 148 of Art Dealer Diaries Podcast.
