I had Mateo Romero on the podcast today. He is a fantastic painter and interesting individual and this interview is one of the more unique podcasts I've had the pleasure to record. On the Art Dealer Diaries, we generally talk about art but with Mateo, we gravitated to the topic of the current racial divide in the United States. Mateo has been involved in a lawsuit for 20+ years against the Washington Redskins organization to change their name so we had a chance to discuss all of the recent developments in that arena,  as well as the obelisk monument in the center of the Santa Fe Plaza and what could be done to replace, or more importantly, recontextualize a monument that refers to Native Americans that lived in the region as the "savage Indians of New Mexico". We also spoke at length about Mateo's artistic process and the life experiences/academia that got him where he is today. This is longer than the usual podcast but is well worth the effort to listen to the entire podcast and was one of my favorite interviews.
