Following its late February premiere, FX's Shōgun became the No. 1 general entertainment series premiere globally for Disney and FX's biggest premiere on Hulu in the U.S. With rave reviews from critics, Shōgun has become TV’s most buzzed about new series.

Streaming weekly on Hulu, Shōgun is set in Japan in the year 1600 at the dawn of a civil war. Lord Yoshii Toranaga is fighting for his life as his enemies on the Council of Regents unite against him. When a mysterious European ship is found marooned in a nearby fishing village, its English pilot, John Blackthorne, comes bearing secrets that could help Toranaga tip the scales of power. Toranaga’s and Blackthorne’s fates become tied to their translator, Toda Mariko, a mysterious Christian noblewoman. While serving her lord amidst this fraught political landscape, Mariko must reconcile her newfound companionship with Blackthorne, her commitment to the faith that saved her and her duty to her late father.

Shōgun is created for television by Rachel Kondo (Co-Creator/ Executive Producer/Writer) & Justin Marks (Co-Creator/Showrunner/Executive Producer/Writer). Marks wrote Disney’s hit film The Jungle Book and co-wrote the Academy Award®-nominated Top Gun: Maverick. Kondo has written for various publications and her story “Girl of Few Seasons” was included in The O. Henry Prize Stories and selected as a juror favorite by Elizabeth Strout.
