Inger Johanne Grytting was born in Svolvær in 1949 and has roots in Tromsø. She moved to New York City in 1972 and with her husband, Mark J. Mirsky began publishing a literary magazine, 'Fiction' which continues to be published to this day. Originally studying sculpture at the New School, Grytting began to create abstract, process-based drawings and paintings, which have been exhibited in Norway and in the United States. Grytting’s studio and home in Manhattan have been a natural gathering place for visiting Norwegian artists for many years.

Inger's show, 'New Work' was at Oslo Kunstforening in 2016:  https://en.oslokunstforening.no/inger-johanne-grytting
