In America, roughly 50% of all African Americans are obese, and 30% of all Caucasians are obese. Losing weight is hard, and bariatric surgery is now recognized as a sucessful treatment to lose weight and prevent serious complications of obesity like high blood pressure and diabetes. Yet according to a recent study, more Whites than African Americans take advantage of this weight loss option, citing lack of insurance and cultural differences as possible reasons why.
