Despair and destruction follow any podcast that bears the Brand of Sacrifice. Berserk (1997) was the first anime adaptation of Kentarou Miura's legendary work. While numerous changes and omissions were made in order to condense Berserk's first two arcs into a 25-episode season, this anime is still remembered fondly. The story follows Guts, the Black Swordsman, as he seeks revenge against the man who plunged the world into darkness. Guts draws the Snake Lord, one of the Apostles of the God Hand, out of his castle in order to face justice. After retrieving a strange relic from the fallen baron, Guts reflects on the events that brought him to this point. In the past, the mercenary Guts found himself inducted into the Band of the Hawk by the group's charismatic leader, Griffith. The Band of the Hawk rose to even greater prominence as the hundred-year war between Midland and Tudor reached its peak. As Guts settled into his newfound role as a war hero, Griffith resolved to defy fate at any cost. Remember to sharpen your gigantic sword, reload your crossbow, and avoid animatronic beignets for today's exciting episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake!
