For some of us, it’s time to “get over it” and “move on” from the past.

Let me explain. It’s easy to get stuck looking in the rearview mirror- gazing in the reasons WHY you can’t move forward...

If some of the clutter in your past was your fault, you might feel like you “owe it” to others (or even yourself) to STAY stuck…

If you’ve hurt others, they might actually be more comfortable with you being stuck, right?

Here’s the deal- we live in an age of grace. It’s an era in which God doesn’t hold the past against you. In fact, He distinctly declares that He’s NOT holding your past over you. He’s FORGOTTEN it (see Jeremiah 31:31-34, Hebrews 8:12).

It’s hard for us to forget sin and the junk of the past, so we assume God can’t, either. He tells us clearly, though, “We don’t think the same way” (Isaiah 55:8).

Furthermore, God not only forgets the past sins we’ve done, He also refuses to hold future wrongs against us (see Romans 4:6-8). You read that right: if you sin tomorrow is ALREADY covered… already forgotten… already in the rearview mirror…

How? Why?

Well, all of our sin was “future” to Christ when He declared “It is finished!” From the Cross…

And, in that moment, He ENDED the Law. Finished. Done. No more.

And, where there is no Law, there’s no possibility of violating that Law (see Romans 4:15). In the same way that you can’t violate a traffic law that doesn’t exist, you can’t violate a religious Law that’s no longer in effect.

I know. You might have thought you should STILL be keeping the rules…

Here’s the deal. Jesus came to fulfill the Law. Then make it obsolete (see Hebrews 8:13). According to the Bible, righteousness could NEVER come through the Law- ever (Romans 3:20, Galatians 2:21, Hebrews 10:4).

A lot of people have the idea that we’re under grace, but that grace simply means we “prove” our love for God by keeping rules. In fact, some Christian leaders believe that since the New Covenant is a better covenant than the Old (Hebrews 8:6), that we should PERFORM MORE rules and regulations… and, in effect, “out perform” the Law!

By no means :-)

The Law wasn’t really part of the plan…

Our story began with grace…

Then the Law came (by Moses)…

And grace returned via Jesus (John 1:17).

That’s right, GRACE. Not “more rules.” Not “get in by grace” and then “prove you’re in” by rule-keeping…

Just grace…

And that, my friend, empowers you to “get over it” and “move on.”

Need freedom + healing + empowerment? Listen in…
