In June 2016, American Joshua Holt traveled to Venezuela to get married. As part of a crackdown on crime under the government of Nicolás Maduro, he and his wife were suddenly rounded up and taken to El Helicoide, a now-infamous prison in the heart of Caracas, known for torture, physical violence and overcrowding.
