Episode: 00141 released on January 9, 2023
Description: Analysis and statistics go hand-in-hand; and while analysts may not be performing advanced statistical analysis every day on the job, they are important decision-making tools. In this episode, Austin Rice discusses the importance of using statistical analysis to help make decisions from where to direct patrol to where the next crime may occur. Projects that Austin has tackled include working with ODMAP, special event support for the NCAA Final Four, and gun violence analysis. Austin talks about the impact of the George Floyd case on his professional life.  Austin also discusses his academic and professional journey, student stories, and advice for aspiring analysts. Austin is currently a Crime Analyst II with the Minneapolis Police Department, and is a part-time firefighter for the City of Minnetonka.
