Rose, Halona & Sandra have a conversation with Heather Mason, founding member of Canadian Women's Sex-Based Rights Activist – caWsbar. caWsbar is a cross-Canada, non-partisan coalition of women & male allies working together to preserve sex-based rights & protections for women & girls.
Heather sits on the board of directors for Strength in SISterhood (SIS) Society. SIS is a group of women who have survived prison & are now working collaboratively with allies to end imprisonment for women. They are against all forms of violence against women, including the state-inflicted violence of the carceral system. Heather was Incarcerated for a time at the Gr& Valley Institution for Women in Ontario. After kicking her drug habit, she became an advocate for women in the criminal justice system, with a particular focus on the failure of the prison system to treat addiction & other mental health problems & on the issue of men self-identifying into women’s prisons.
