Army veteran Bobby Henline is the sole survivor of an IED explosion. The catastrophic  injuries  he miraculously survived left him severely disfigured. He required years of hospitalizations and surgeries. But with all the focus on treating his physical wounds, the hidden wounds festered.

Bobby plunged into depression that could easily be attributed to the scars he bears, the arm he lost, and  the altered appearance caused by those injuries. While Bobby was struggling through those things, the most dangerous wounds he faced were a result of survivor's guilt and post traumatic stress.

It’s been 13 years since that explosion, and Bobby is now fully immersed in a new life. He is a successful speaker, entrepreneur, and comedian. He is engaged to a woman he loves, his relationships with his kids are thriving, and he has found a way to use all of his experiences to guide and support others faced with their own trauma.

In this episode of American Snippets, Bobby Henline talks about his 30 year path from a 19 year-old ,divorced, alcoholic veteran, to his return to military service, his life as a survivor, mentor, comedian, and founder of a non-profit. He shares his lessons on resilience, how his experience altered his faith, what it’s like to start up in comedy, and how to find a positive outlet to channel trauma. He also shares his experience of being drafted into a political battle and how that changed his own practice of expressing political views.
