This week, American Real sits down with David Dickinson Schumann — artist, hair-stylist and philanthropist whose rich history and upbringing brings us back to when his great grandfather, A. Ward Ford, together with Harlow and Willard Bundy, built CTR, short for Computing-Tabulating-Recording-Company, later hiring Thomas Watson before changing the name to IBM. David takes us on his life journey where he attended art school in the disco era, later finding his passion as a hairstylist and living it out in Boston, a city he thought he would never leave. Our frank conversation touches on when he was bullied in middle-school, he opens up about his sexuality, drug addiction, religious and political views, as well as the changes he made in his own life, where he literally found New Hope as well as a new home. Today, after two heart attacks, he is focused as remaining healthy, as well as his re-newed interests in reading, exercise and medication. But more importantly, just as he has his entire life, David has a genuine care of all people, giving them new hope to believe in themselves, while pointing out, we are all fortunate to be living in such a great time period, hence Never Stop Believing.
