Hubris, Greed and Lies in Afghanistan

“When the military plans something, we can execute. When you see a fail like this, it’s because the leaders failed to execute the plan.” That is the final analysis of former Green Beret Joe Kent on the Biden Administration’s failed withdrawal from Afghanistan. 

Kent, who is running for Congress in the state of Washington, shared his thoughts on the horrible Afghanistan withdrawal with “After Dark.” He explained to the hosts he is furious over Biden’s actions and can’t imagine the “gut-wrenching flight” taken by those military officers leaving Americans behind. “I never thought in a million years that we would leave Americans behind, and days later, there would be a sitting president on national TV blaming those Americans for being hostages.”   

Based on his experience and knowledge, Kent said, the military wasn’t prepared to leave the country because the generals thought they could convince Biden to stay longer and nation-build, which is “big money” for the military elite and defense contractors. He said Afghanistan’s withdrawal is similar to Iraq’s, where he served, with a few exceptions. There were no deaths or American’s deliberately left. However, some artillery was left, resulting in a few military men returning with defense contractors. At the end of the day, he said it is “hubris, greed, and lies” keeping us in many of these wars. 

Watching Biden on TV receive the bodies of the fallen soldiers at Dover Air Force Base reminded Kent of his 2019 visit. It was during this time he received the body of his wife, Shannon. He remembers the day being “very cold and very solemn.” Unlike Biden, who was seen on TV checking his watch, as 13 flag-draped coffins carrying the remains of marines were removed from an airplane, President Trump stood on the tarmac in the cold the entire time and rendered the proper salute. Afterward, Kent had a private meeting with Trump, whom he describes as being genuinely concerned over his loss, and listened to him talk about his wife and their two sons, she left behind.

Calling out woke military generals and the intelligence community, Kent, whose was run for Congress was endorsed by the 45th president, said if elected, he will hold military generals accountable for not being truthful about the reality of wars.

Joe Kent is a native of Oregon. He enlisted in the Army as an infantryman and earned his way into the Ranger Regiment and then Special Forces. After 9/11, he volunteered to serve in combat which he did for over twenty years and eleven combat deployments. It was in the Army where he met his wife, Shannon, and had two sons. On January 16, 2019, his life took a turn when his wife was killed in Syria just a month after President Trump had tried to get troops out of Syria. After her death, Kent said he was forced to step back from this military life to care for their two toddlers. While he says he still has some fight in him, now it is for his district in Washington and to make the country a better place for his sons. The country his wife gave her life for.
