Jesus tells us in his parable that only the soil of "an honest and good heart" can cultivate the fruits of the Spirit in the soul to perfection. Worldly cares, indifference, temptations, and distractions all work to extinguish Christ's work in the human soul. Fr. Oldfield preaches to the needfulness of God's grace in Lent to keep our hearts tender and ready to receive the word of God.
Old Testament: Isaiah 50:4-10
