The sermon was delivered on Sunday, October 25, 2015, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar, Senior Minister.
SERMON DESCRIPTION
I rarely speak at all three services on the same Sunday anymore. However, this week, as I explore "Why You Matter" I will be speaking in each service. In my Wednesday night class with Bishop Carlton Pearson (I am in week two of three and all are invited to join one or all of these classes) we are exploring how what is happening currently at All Souls fits into the long religious narrative of American life. Something truly original is going on and it has historic roots and interesting possibilities. Pentecostalism and Unitarianism have historically staked out ground at the far ends of the religious spectrum. Today, at All Souls, there is a fascinating coming together of people, philosophies, and practices that are leading people from both ends of the rationalism versus emotionalism continuum toward a new integration of minds and hearts. The mind-body dualism that has been such a dominant force in Western culture is being challenged and opened up in ways that invite us all to become more whole and integrated people. In this blessed process, you matter a lot!
