The sermon was delivered on Sunday, January 24, 2016, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar, Senior Minister.
SERMON DESCRIPTION
Lying has become so pervasive in our culture that we now have countless ways of dressing it up so that it doesn’t sound so bad. Instead of telling lies anymore, we: “Massage the truth” or we, “offer the truth from a favorable perspective” or we engage in “selective disclosure,” “creative enhancement,” “strategic misrepresentations,” “poetic truth.” We bend the truth or shade the truth or shave the truth or stretch it a bit. And our current favorite dress for dishonesty, we say it isn’t a lie, it’s just spin. It’s the truth enhanced. Why do we lie? That is the subject of my message this Sunday.
