The sermon was delivered on Sunday, November 2, 2014, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar, Senior Minister.
SERMON DESCRIPTION
When we forgive we free ourselves. When we have a shift in our heart around the harm someone has done to us, or that we have done to another, that shift is liberating.
One of my favorite quotes on the subject has been: Forgiveness is “letting go of the hope of a better yesterday.” It is about finding a way to release ourselves from the bondage of a wrongdoing so that we can be open to this day and to the future rather than remaining trapped by the past. It is easier said than done, but it is possible. Our theme for the month of November is “Forgiveness.” Learning to forgive is one the greatest gifts we can give to ourselves.
