The sermon was delivered on Sunday, August 3, 2014, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Tamara Lebak, Associate Minister.
SERMON DESCRIPTION
The crucifixion story leaves us with one of the most powerful tools of courage that I can imagine. In the midst of betrayal, in the darkness, in the middle of the day, confronted with doubt and meaninglessness, Jesus has the courage to cry out what was on his heart “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?” Jesus addresses the very God he has issue with, an argument for a connection even in what appears to be separation. There is a vulnerability that coexists with any true act of courage. Before we can do so with clarity we must also have the courage to look into ourselves. We would all like to be brave in the face of difficulty, in the face of our greatest fears. Join me as I explore what it means to have the courage to be.
