MESSAGE DESCRIPTION
Terrorism has no religion.
For many of us, the tragedy hasn’t quite sunk in yet. Nearly 130 people are dead in the worst violence witnessed by France since World War II, deemed by the French President "an act of war.” Responsibility for the coordinated attacks has been claimed by ISIL, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. Witnesses during the attacks said the terrorists were shouting, "Allahu Akbar,” or “God is Great!,” during their rampage.
On social media some French people have been circulating variations on this theme: “Don’t ‪#‎PrayforParis‬…religion is what caused this.” And how are we, members of a liberal religion, to understand such unthinkable violence that derives its strength from religion? And how can we take a stand against Islamic religious terrorism and extremism, while embracing the vast, overwhelming majority of Muslims who wish only for a world of peace and love?
