The sermon was delivered on Sunday, October 12, 2014, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar, Senior Minister.
SERMON DESCRIPTION
Some endings create a separation and some connect us. When a person stops thinking he is unlovable, he begins to experience love. When our self-centeredness or self-hatred die, we begin to blossom. When we stop thinking we are our job title or family role or our body or the best or worst thing we’ve ever done, we start discovering who we really are. When we enter a relationship or join an organization there are some freedoms we must give up, but in return we receive many rewards that we could never have had without making the sacrifices required. Some people never learn how entering a commitment or covenant or relationship both limits us and expands our possibilities. To fail to learn and live this core truth is to fail one of the fundamentals of life and love. When we learn to celebrate, rather than resist the endings that connect us, we come more fully alive.
