Here it is. Finally. Here is the long awaited, critically acclaimed, profoundly esteemed, highly regarded and tastefully requested first episode of the On Being mini-series. The On Being series aims to distil and investigate questions of what it means 'to be'. How cool is the art for the episode? Thanks @fkncoco!
In this first Episode, I talk about the Philosophy of Being (duh...). I set out the parameters for a philosophical understanding of Being by looking at three central figures of Existentialist Philosophy (Sartre, Heidegger and Nietzsche). I elucidate the challenges posed by matters related to being - free-will, consciousness, artificial intelligence, the ethics of decision making and whether anything is intrinsically valuable. (I also have a discussion of why I chose these three old problematic white men as opposed to drawing on non-Western-white-male Philosophers).
Thanks for listening.
Love,
Aleks
