I love it when I meet like-minded people who challenge the standard way of doing things.  After all, if we want to achieve more impact, by definition we have to change the way we are doing things now—or at least question them.  My guests today are founders of the social enterprise “United Edge”, and they happen to be in Dili doing a training among other things on “Leadership for Impact.”  Matt Kletzing and Daniel Bevan have a combined 15 years’ experience working for a variety of humanitarian organizations before deciding they wanted to influence aid workers to take an alternative model to development, one they are calling the “Justice Based Approach.”  They will explain more about this in the interview, as well as a few practical ways we as leaders can make more impact on ourselves, our teams and our organizations.

A few highlights:

Definition of a “Justice Based Approach” as an additional lense to the “Human Rights Based Approach” to development

-           Examples of “walking our talk” as leaders in international development

-          Determining what has the biggest impact that we can do as an individual and making that change

-          Definition of “Leadership for Impact” – not only meeting needs of community but looking at ourselves, our organizations and the world

-          How to provide permission to fail

-          How to become a more thoughtful leader

-          How hierarchies can add to the problem of limiting innovation and staff empowerment
