Episode 162: Irish Horror Movie Month: 'Shrooms' (2007)/'Deadstream' (2022)

We have been doing our podcast for three and a half years. Much of that time was spent during a global pandemic. We take everything we do on the show serious, but it is also about having fun with friends. We were very pleased to see that our Twitter account that we just started last year has managed to amass 1,000 followers. We are even more excited to announce that we are on the verge of 25,000 downloads. Keep listening to hear about what exciting things we have planned.

It is always sad to see your favorite things get worse with time. The Alien franchise has suffered like few others over the decades. This week brought the news that Fede Alavarez would be helming the latest installment. Alvarez has seen his fortunes changes since a strong debut. Is this too combustible of a combination? We also talk about Steven Segal's involvement in the Russian-Ukraine conflict.

Our second film for Irish Horror Movies month is 2007's Shrooms. The movie is about a group of college friends who head to Ireland to trip out on mushrooms. Before long, they running for their lives. The film answers a question we posed last week about how much a director has to do when the setting is naturally beautiful. It also reminds audiences of the timelessness of the 1990s and how great the name 'Bluto' is.

South by Southwest is back and we begin with one of the most anticipated horror movies coming to the fest. Deadstream is a fun homage to Evil Dead, 80s B horror, and found footage.  Is the lead charismatic or cringey? Is it really scary or does it try to be funny?
