Most of us believe that our perception of the world is a fairly accurate portrayal of reality. Our various sense organs (especially the eyes and ears) bring us data from the world, and our brain processes that information in such a way to craft a framework for reality.

And it all seems to hold together just fine, even though we experience widely varying degrees of emotion from euphoric happiness to the depths of despair.

But rarely do we question the basis on which our entire thought system rests.

If we are a part of and inseparably connected to infinite oneness, how could we possibly experience anything other than peace? The answer is that we can’t. Yet we can believe we do.

From A Course in Miracles: “What you perceive is your interpretation.” In other words, everything that we experience is not reality, but rather our interpretation of reality. Hence all our emotions are not caused by anything going on in the world or our bodies. Our emotions stem from our interpretation of the world.

And all interpretation results from a choice in the mind (not the brain). When we experience anything other than peace, it isn’t because reality contains conflict. Lack of peace comes from choosing the ego mind. And nothing else.

If we want a different experience, all we need to do is make a different choice in the mind (choosing against the ego and for the mind of the Holy Spirit), from which our entire perception will change.
