Where is the past? Literally, where is it?

Is it hanging around somewhere in the world? Is it in some eternal repository being held future judgment? Is it stuck to the bottom of your shoe?

No, no, and no.

The past is gone. It’s over. It is completely non-existent. Only in our thoughts do we make it real.

A Course in Miracles succinctly states, “The past is not in you. Your weird associations to it have no meaning in the present.”

But our “weird associations” - meaning, our thoughts about it - give the past so much weight. It is we who carry around this heavy burden by our thoughts.

To let the past go, to let all the weight of discontent disappear, is accomplished by changing our thoughts. “Change but your mind on what you want to see, and all the world must change accordingly.”
