A therapist who believes that something is broken which needs to be healed is not viewing the patient properly. When we look for causes in the world as the source of our sorrows, we will never find them. The world - and other people - are not responsible for our state of wellbeing. Rather, it is the choice for the ego that leads to all manner of unhappiness.
These powerful lines from A Course in Miracles make it so clear: “A therapist does not heal; he lets healing be. It is in the instant that the therapist forgets to judge the patient that healing occurs.”
When we let go of judgment, then we can see everyone as they truly are. And from that vantage point, we will automatically channel whatever words or actions would be most helpful.
