August 27, 1587 would be the final day the lost colonists of Roanoke would be seen by the fellow landgrabbers. In fact, it would be three years until their Governor, John White, would return to find the colony abandoned with no trace of the 115 people left behind to start a new life in what was seen as easily conquerable land. Terrible fortune beset the explorers of this so-called New World, likely because it was infact a very lived-in and established country with people not fond of their new party crashers. The legend has lived through the centuries of what happened to the aspiring imperialists, cloaked in mystery and often the paranormal. Roanoke however, wasn't even the first failed colony on the islands of the outer banks. In fact, John White, the Governor of Roanoke, was a surviving member of the previous fort on the isle, the Lane Colony. So, what was the fate of the Roanoke Colonists? Did they get wha they had coming to them? Was it a plague? Famine, maybe even something zombie-like? Or was it a sea monster that would do Lovecraft proud?
