Singapore is an island city state. As a city-state, Singapore is also its own capital. Instead of cities, it is broken down into towns - each of which has its own jurisdiction. Singapore consists of 63 islands, including the main island, Pulau Ujong.
The country has almost 5.7 million residents, 61% (3.4 million) of whom are Singaporean citizens. There are four official languages of Singapore: English, Malay, Chinese and Tamil. English is the most widely spoken language.
