A Kentucky spirits giant is considering a $500 million investment in Kentucky.

Sazerac Company Inc. was preliminarily approved for a 15-year incentive agreement in Laurel County in London, Kentucky.

According to a report released by the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority (KEDFA), Sazerac is considering the large project “to meet growing demand.”

The details of the project are still unclear as it was just preliminarily approved, Stephen P. Schmidt tells us on the Access Louisville podcast.

On this week’s podcast, we introduce you Schmidt, our new reporter. He covers bourbon (timely for this week) along with technology, innovation and finance.

It was a big week for bourbon. We also talk about a “secretive” whiskey company which bought land in Shelby County for $5.5 million. Assistant Managing Editor Haley Cawthon explains to us why the brand is such a mystery.

Beyond Bourbon, we also discuss what has been the talk of the town: UofL basketball received its punishment following an NCAA investigation that stretched 5 years and probably cost the university $50 million, Athletic Director Josh Heird estimated.

We talk about all of this and more this week on Access Louisville.
