Getting the call to lead your own program is a special time in your baseball career but you cannot stay in that moment for too long - there is plenty of work to be done! This week’s show connects with three loyal ABCA member coaches who recently earned opportunities to sit in the big chair at their respective programs as we chat with Jeff Mercer from Indiana University, Rick McCarty from Abilene Christian University and Eric Peterson from Benedictine College. These three men were packing boxes and moving their families this summer and we open up their process to getting their ducks in a row before fall practice and how they plan on making their mark on their programs. In this episode, we work to offer A-to-Z viewpoints behind the process including hiring assistant coaches, hitting the recruiting trails and finding players that fit the vision for the team. All three coaches detail out their first days on the job, what their priorities were and where they stand today.
