Our topic today is "Why Enjoying The Journey Is So Important". You know, it's life. You have to be enjoying yourself, or else it's just a struggle. What fun is a struggle, right?
One of the things that I ask to my students is about their vision. What do you want your life to look after 5 years out from now? Because I don't want you to build the business that you hate. For example, you might start out cleaning the units, you might start out property managing or you might start out as a maintenance person. But the journey to reach your goals far exceeds the goal itself. This is because, at the beginning you want to save money and getting to understand the day to day operations of the business. Again, this is just the part of the journey to reach your ultimate goal.
Also, some of you might want to own just one multi-family building and some of you might want to own multi buildings all together, then you've got to figure out way to make it work for you that you get to do the stuff you enjoy on a day to day basis. For example, I don't like managing the buildings, So either I have managing partners or staff to do that. I like buying, I love the thrill of the deal, getting the deal done, dealing with investors or putting the financing in place. But once it's all there, it's not my baby anymore. And I got to do that most of the time. I love dealing with my students, I love helping them get to that point. And I love helping them build the life that they love. So what is that to you? There might be different things that you need to figure out over time. You won't know it all today.
One of the lady, Esther Hicks that I follow says that "You have to have Contrast in Your Life" meaning, the bad things. So you know what you want. For example, you enjoy managing your property for the first six months and all of a sudden you have a big crisis and you realize, No I don't like doing that anymore. May be that's the time to hand it off and start to find staff to handle that. So the message here is life never goes according to plan. Life is replete with the meaning I assign it. It is upheld by my passion toward my purpose.
